Chargers, Chemics post home wins in hockey

Travis McNally scored the go-ahead goal with 1:10 remaining as Dow High beat DeWitt 4-2 on Friday night in a nonleague hockey game at the Midland Civic Arena.

"It was definitely a good win," Chargers' coach Dick Blasy said. "But we really have to start playing more inspired hockey with the playoffs around the corner."

 

Dow's David Laursen fed Trevor Roberts for a goal with 6:13 left in the first period. DeWitt scored to tie the game with 52 seconds left in the period.

After a scoreless second period, Laursen scored with 6:57 left in the game from Steven Roberts and Joey Sleeper to put Dow up 2-1, but DeWitt tied it again with 2:24 left.

McNally got the eventual game-winner on assists from Trevor Roberts and Zach Paisley, and then Laursen scored into an empty net with 26 seconds left.

Derek Striker was in goal for the Chargers in the win.

Dow (9-8) hosts Muskegon Mona Shores today at 3:15 p.m.

Midland High 7, Muskegon Mona Shores 5

Sam Gannon scored three goals Friday night to lead Midland High over Muskegon Mona Shores 7-5 in nonleague hockey at the Midland Civic Arena.

Nick Mammel had a goal and three assists for Midland. Steve Trombley scored twice and Thomas Smith scored once.

The teams were tied 2-2 after the first period, and the Chemics pulled out to a 6-4 lead at the end of the second.

Colin Walters and Keith Inman both played in goal for Midland, which outshot the Sailors 34-16.

Midland (14-4) plays Grosse Pointe South today on a neutral site at the Bay County Civic Arena at 4 p.m.

Mona Shores is 10-8.
